Why, Haiku?

I decided to add another journey to my destination of writing projects –  writing Haiku.  After reading Tyler Knott Gregson’s, Chasers of the Light: Poems from the Typewriter Series and All the Words are Yours: Haiku on Love, I knew that I wanted to start my own collection of haiku.  It inspired me to go for it!

All the Words are Yours: Haiku on Love, is really what sealed the deal for me, and my determination to try my hand at it.  To be able to make someone laugh or cry in such a short amount of words is very poignant.  I feel poetry is very underestimated and people are fearful of their interpretation of it.  But that’s the beauty about writing poetry, it can be read and understood through different eyes.  I would encourage anybody to pick up any poetry book and just read it, don’t over analyze it, just read it.  It’s okay to read the poems more than once, their meaning might change the second, third or fourth time around.

I believe a poem captivates emotions that can’t be expressed physically, at first, depending on the emotion being represented.  Poems are beautiful and they can make you feel a certain type of way.  Sometimes, the feeling may be uncomfortable, but if you’re reading in the privacy of your home, what does it matter?  And even if you’re not home, never be ashamed to express how you truly feel.  If it makes you cry, then cry.  If it makes you laugh, then laugh.  If it makes you angry, then say “Grrrr…”  It’s okay. 🙂

You could be missing out on something, because Poetry, no matter what style, is meant to be read and shared.  Poetry has a way of touching you intimately, let yourself be immersed in a world of beautiful, enlightening imagery.  Let yourself be comforted, even if it’s through a book.  The best part of it all. 😉

Thank you,

Cristina Isabel

P.S. Look out for my reviews on both books!
